Book Moments: I Can't Wait to Reveal...

I always love to post historical findings about people (especially Josie), places, things, book reviews and such…To this, I’d also like to add some thoughts regarding the books I read. When I really enjoy a book, I feel the need to share this with like-minded friends. Sometimes there are some interesting details and anecdotes that absolutely fascinate me- and I feel that I could never totally reveal these in one book review alone. Sometimes a book needs to be explored even further. Sometimes issues come forth, old ideas are revisited, and sometimes things are so unbelievably strange or funny that they just have to be shared. For every story there’s more than just that story.

I’ve already mentioned how I love old books and when I find a really special one, I wish others could read it too. But, the sad part about some of these oldies but goodies is that they’re not always easy to find. So, why not let people in on what I’m reading?

Now this brings me (finally…) to what I’m going to do about it. About once a week I’ll highlight some of the things I find interesting in the books I’m reading. It’ll vary from week to week of course because I’ve got this really bad habit of reading quite a few books at a time- so my posts will not necessarily follow a neatly planned order.

Right now, besides my Plaidys, Remusat and others, I’m really into my Louis XIV by Vincent Cronin. It was written in the 60’s. For now, let me just say that I can’t put it down. It’s that good. I had the right idea to start this one right after reading Mistress of The Sun…while the King is still fresh on my mind.

If you’re interested, I’ll tell you more on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

I get into reading binges, too, but I also pull away until it happens again...usually writing takes over...or I watch a particular kind of movie...a series on DVD...right now, I'm not letting myself start any new reading until I have my end of the semester work caught up...(I break the rule every day...at least once)-what a bummer!<3

Hello Ms.Lucy,
I recently read Cronin's book about Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. His writing is so felicitous. I will definitely read more books by him. He inherited his talent from his father, A.J.Cronin. I used to read all of his books, but unfortunately they're out of print now.

I have reading phrases and I also like to read quite a few books at a time. My latest phrase was reading about the Antarctic explorers but the stories are so horrific that I'm going to give that up soon! I became interested in this when I visited New Zealand.

Very interested, Ms. Lucy! Do tell on Monday. I also have the bad habit of reading way too many things. Makes it hard to finish some of them when always starting something new. I'm still considering that Speed REading course but mostly for information...not for prose. A writer would lose too much, I think.
Happy Sunday!

I think it is a lovely idea to share passages from books that are not readily available. It is a treat to get snippets from old book and I'll look forward to these posts.
P.S. I too read multiple books at the same time....

I admire you for reading such weighty books and holding an interest in a certain subject for so long. You must have amassed a real trove of knowledge about Josephine and French history over these years you've been reading about her. I'm not so committed to one subject--but dip in and out of so many things.

Have a lovely week.
