A Dreamy Afternoon Getaway

Today, on this gloomy, wet, Wednesday afternoon here in Montreal, I need something that will revitalize and cheer me up. I think a little dream travel to my favourite part of the world is just what I need. So, if anyone wants to join me, I’m off for a little fun browsing in, where else but Venice…

My first absolute ‘must go to’ stop is at Zora da Venezia. http://www.zoradavenezia.com/zdv01/ Zora’s creations are all made from murano glass and gold. What a luxurious place! Think I’ll pick up a beautiful fruit piece- (all of them original creations)

Then there’s the colorful antique market in Campo San Maurizio filled with outdoor goodies as well as indoor shops filled with precious wonders.

Oh and there’s this other precious find in San Giorgio Dei Greci- I love the Byzantine artefacts in this place…ahhh

I’m not one for bugs, but this little nook, right off the Palazzo Ducale, makes these prehistoric insects, butterflies and fossils look like collectible gems…I’m almost tempted… Buzz on in…

For a mask lover like me, there’s no way I’d miss Gerrino Lovato’s creations http://www.mondonovomaschere.it/artista.htm. He makes the most astounding masks the old traditional way. I love the display in his bottega Mondonovo...

There’s so much more to see. But I’m satisfied for now. Time for a little cappuccino at the all time favourite, Café Florian….

I feel so much better now…

I just love browsing in antique shops and old bookstores. I'd love to do that with you sometime. Are there any good places to go in Montreal?

I'd love that for sure Ingrid. Montreal is filled with artsy stuff...very French; lots of galleries, antique shops...There are a few old bookstores, but the best ones are French:)

Gorgeous Ms Lucy. I had so much fun looking at these. Really made my evening. Thank you!

I want to go to the place with the Byzantine artifacts FIRST. :)

Hi Elena:) Montreal has kept a lot of its French influence while basking in the North American continent..makes for an all-around diverse and interesting place...well, at least I think so! Thanks.

Hi sallymandy! I LOVE that place...there are millions of treasures in there- Betcha they'd have to drag both of us out kicking and screaming!

What a wonderful post! I'd love to be browsing these shops and wouldn't it be lovely to have a cappuccino together.

Hi Catherine! I think I would lose my mind as well- just too many beautiful things. The espresso would jolt us back to reality though:)
